22/08/2010 - The Costa del Sol Tourist Board considers this year’s international press trip on the occasion of Málaga Fair to have been really successful. Thanks to this promotional action, reporters from all over Spain and from other countries stayed for a few days in the province, invited by the Tourist Board. The results were positive in terms of the participants, the interest they showed in our travel destination, and the advertising impact the trip will have in the leading media where the reporters work.

13/08/2010 - Once again this year, the Tourist Board has organised a press trip for Málaga Fair, inviting journalists from Spain and abroad to stay in the city for four days. The journalists, who are staying in Málaga from Friday, August 13 to Tuesday, 17, will cover the event in the prestigious Spanish and international media they represent.

30/07/2010 - Representatives of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board have been present in a new edition of the Scandinavian Masters. The tournament was held for the first time in Bro Hof Slott Golf Club in Stockholm, a golf course first chosen by the Swedish Golf Federation as seat of the Ryder Cup 2018 and then withdrawn from the bid. Since the club’s authorities and the European Tour have signed a seven-year agreement, the Scandinavian Masters will take place in this golf course for this period of time.

28/07/2010 - Today, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board was present in the press conference held by the Business Association of Andalusian Travel Agencies (AEDAV) and the Association of Hoteliers of the Costa del Sol (AEHCOS) to present the prospects for the summer season. According to the data released at the conference, the prospects are good, although not good enough to hint at economic recovery. In winter, the number of overnight stays dropped, but the trend can be reversed in July and August whose growth prospects hover around 5%, or 7% in Málaga City.

20/07/2010 - The Costa del Sol Tourist Board has considered its participation in the reverse forum on tourism in Italy as successful. Organised by Turismo Andaluz, the forum was held in Seville. Italy is the fourth largest outbound market for Spain, with a share of 6.6% and stands ninth for the Costa del Sol. Last year, the Italian market shrank as a result of the crisis, but the results for the first half of 2010 are better than the Jan-Jun 2009 figures. The goal for both Turismo Andaluz and the Costa del Tourist Board in attending the forum was publicising the travel products available and the latest developments in our travel destination and encourage contacts between Costa del Sol entrepreneurs and Italian brokers in a special workshop.

20/07/2010 - The International Marketing Department of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board has welcomed a group of ten students and authorities form Hotelová Akadémia Liptovsky Mikulas, a tourism school in Slovakia. The request had been made by the incoming travel agency Ekip Europa.

19/07/2010 - The Golf Department of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board has been present in the IAGTO Mid-Year Convention, held in Prague. (IAGTO is the International Association of Golf Tour Operators.) During the four-day event, our staff made contacts with the leading global brokers and collected first-hand data on the difficult situation the golf market is going through. They also discussed alternatives to go back to normal.

15/07/2010 - Today, the President of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, Salvador Pendón, and Royal Air Maroc’s Manager for Spain, Adil Mohamed Korchi, introduced the airline’s new daily flight from Casablanca to Málaga. The new flight is in line with the stronger business relations with Morocco and the promotional action there taken by the Tourist Board in the past few years.

14/07/2010 - Today, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board signed a support agreement for Málaga as a candidate to be the European Capital of Culture 2016. The event was attended by the President of the Tourist Board, Salvador Pendón, and the President of the Málaga Cultural City Foundation, Juan López Cohard, who thus showed both institutions intention to cooperate.

12/07/2010 - Today, Málaga City became an official candidate to be the European Capital of Culture in 2016, after the President of the Málaga Cultural City Foundation, Juan López Cohard, submitted all the required documents at the registry of Government Office. Afterwards, several members of the Foundation –including the President of the Provincial Government of Málaga, Salvador Pendón; the Mayor of Málaga City, Francisco de la Torre; and the representative of the Andalusian Government in Málaga Province, María Gámez– presented a project under the slogan “Infinite City,” comprising seven main courses of action and encompassing all the arts.
