Today, the President of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, Salvador Pendón, its Managing Director, Ana Gómez, and several staff members attended the 1st Tourism Day in Montejaque, a food and cultural event organised to show all the travel products and services available in this municipality.
Besides local authorities, the event was attended by provincial deputies such as Jesús Mora, Luis Reina, Francisco Márquez, and Fernando Centeno.
Montejaque’s Tourism Day is aimed at showing all of Montejaque’s activities, customs, and traditions throughout the year in a single day. In the words of Mr Alza, “it’s a fiesta dedicated to all the people who visit us all through the year, as well as to the local companies thanks to which this activity is the present and future of our town.” The Mayor added that Montejaque had shown its maturity as a leading country travel destination.
In his speech, Mr Pendón reminded the audience that tourism in Málaga Province went well beyond the Costa del Sol, adding that there should be no barriers for small towns to welcome tourists. “Word-of-mouth recommendation works, and tourists, who now plan their own trips, are drawn by local fiestas,” he explained.
The 1st Tourism Day comprises the Game of the Pitcher, which has been designated as a Fiesta of Tourist Singularity by the Provincial Government. Besides, with the help of local travel companies and hotels, a game has been organised to have residents and out-of-towners taste typical food products in many different locations in town and not just in the plaza.
Montejaque’s typical foods include pork scratchings pie or fortified wine. Parallel activities included visits to tourist establishments and a sightseeing tour in this small town in Serranía de Ronda, taking visitors to the Church of Santiago el Mayor, the Old Washhouse (a monument to working women), and the Speleology Visitors Centre (close to the Hundidero-Gato cave system) –three must-sees.
The 1st Tourism Day in Montejaque is supported by the Provincial Government of Málaga, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, and the Montejaque Town Hall.
