The Costa del Sol Convention Bureau at Barcelona’s EIBTM

The Costa del Sol Convention Bureau has been present in one of the leading business travel shows worldwide, EIBTM, held in Barcelona. The Tourist Board’s MICE travel department brought a delegation comprising some thirty affiliates –four- and five-star hotels, MICE travel agencies, and service companies– with the aim of publicising both the Costa del Sol as a travel destination and the travel products and services offered by associated companies.

EIBTM’s format was similar to that of other conventional trade shows. Our Convention Bureau had two desks and two work tables in the Turismo Andaluz stand, where for three days we held pre-scheduled meetings arranged by the organisers. These meetings resulted in interesting contacts.

The event’s development has been satisfactory. It drew a high number of Spanish and international buyers, who we met thanks to the system of pre-scheduled appointments run by the organisers. Likewise, we held meetings with international partners to discuss how to carry out some of the joint activities included in our 2010 Action Plan.

In most appointments and meetings, buyers were interested in our travel destination and its new developments. Therefore, our Convention Bureau considered the Barcelona-based fair to have had good results. The markets interested in the Costa del Sol as a MICE travel destination were Spain, Poland, Russia, Sweden, France, the US, and Canada.
